The founders, along with, the first executive officers and board members should be commended for stepping up and getting the JCSA rolling. These people also brought with them their expertise/fondness to work with those particular organizations. They are: Paul Giamanco (Resident Agent), Wayman Harlan, Terry Hammons, John Kiefer (President), Bob Kelley (Treasurer), Marvin Rightnowar (Dist. 80), Roy Payne, Kurt Strothmann, Bob Strothmann (Ki-Op), J D Lewis, Kent Stevens (Colt), Gregg Hampton (Am. Legion), Bob Hamerski, Gil Bernard (Dist. 201), "Short" Sledge (V. Pres.-Football), Les Boone (Sec.-Jeff. Co. Schools), and Steve Rogers. In February 2004 the JCSA gave recognition to three of its founding members John Kiefer, Kevin Martin and Rolland “Short” Sledge for their service and leadership in growing the JCSA into the preeminent provider of youth sports in Jefferson County. John Keifer was the first president of our organization and was instrumental in creating the JCSA. John lead the JCSA for eight years and worked with over 700 youth in three sports each year. Short Sledge is also a past president of the JCSA and before recently resigning from the directorship of our Junior Football League, he was the only football league director in our history. Kevin Martin served on the board for six years, stepping down as he reached our mandatory term limit. Kevin has served on many committees and he coached baseball for ten years, taking one of his teams to within one step of the Pony World Series. He also has coached our football teams to League titles. In 2004, the JCSA started the Shetland League being comprised of 5 and 6 year old boys and girls and being sponsored by the City of Mt. Vernon, Illinois. In 2005 Volleyball was added with Kristen Kaskie being chosen to oversee the start of this program and growing. Fall of 2006 will see the start of our Cheerleading program with Deanna McCoy and Margie Schwartz cheering the girls in the football season.
